The Following suggestions are from Trust the Children: An Activity Guide for Homeschooling and Alternative Learning by Anna Kealoha. The Book is out of print and extremely hard to find but worth the search.
I’ve added my two cents as well.
Language Arts:
The best thing a parent can do for their child is read aloud with them.
READ! READ! READ!
One of my favorite author/educators is Mem Fox. Visit her website for ideas on how children learn to read.
Ask your librarian for suggestions of books to read aloud.
Writing:
Make little books (staple folded pages of blank paper together) for your child to fill with stories, poems, songs, recipes, beautiful words.
Make lists ~ favorite things, groceries, things to do today.
Write letters to friends and family ~ make copies to save for their portfolio.
Play games ~ Scrabble, Boggle, Pictionary.
Make up stories ~ Oral & written, take dictation for your child.
Use a Children’s Dictionary.
Let the child illustrate their own dictionary.
Explore poetry.
Math:
Manipulatives
Legos, beans, dominoes, pattern blocks
Play store or restaurant
money, counting, subtraction, addition, decimal system
Play board games & card games

Games for Math by Peggy Kaye.
Science (Nature):
Keep a nature journal (Blank art type spiral notebook). Draw & label what is seen.
Always feel free to take dictation for your child. Their thoughts are bigger than their skill to write.
Gardening- Fill a windowsill or deck with potted plants. Sprout seeds.
Weather-observe & record the weather.
Stargazing.
Explore the ocean.
Care for an animal.
