Jennifer’s educational progress was observed through an interview along with a review of a portfolio of work including but not limited to work samples, projects, photographs, verbal descriptions, discussion, reading lists, field trips and resource lists.
Jennifer shared her writing with me. She wrote a book review on Caps for Sale, a report on sea urchins, and is working on a story about monsters. Jennifer keeps a reading list. This year she especially enjoyed reading The Little House, Make Way for Ducklings and The Hobbit.
Jennifer worked with her family to grow a garden. She planted carrots, beets and lettuce from seed. She also cared for tomato, pepper and cucumber plants. Jennifer also learned about composting with worms.
Jennifer studied the Revolutionary War this year following the Freedom Trail in Boston. She drew a map of Paul Revere’s ride, wrote a report on John Adams and memorized part of the Declaration of Independence.
